Sometimes you can look at a thought, see that it is exaggerated, and move on. Sometimes you can see exactly why a thought is unfair and still feel as if your whole body believes it. The difference is not a personal failure. It is information about the level at which the reaction is operating.
Feel Different calls the choice of response a Meta-decision. Before you try to fix the feeling, you decide what kind of issue you are actually meeting.
When the thought needs a question
An automatic thought may make a claim that can be tested. “Nobody answered my message because they dislike me.” “If I make one mistake, this meeting is ruined.” Stop and ask what you know, what you are guessing, and what the thought leaves out. A more accurate sentence can reduce unnecessary pressure.
When the situation needs action
Not every difficult feeling is an inner-belief issue. Perhaps you missed a deadline, need to apologise, need more practice, need a clearer boundary, or need help with a real external problem. The Meta-decision protects you from turning practical responsibility into endless self-analysis. Take the action that the situation actually requires.
When a hidden rule needs to be exposed
If the feeling is driven by a rule such as “If I disappoint someone, I am worthless,” the task is not only to debate the first thought. See the false link. A difficult outcome can be painful without becoming a verdict about your identity. Naming that link can stop the Pathological Inner Critic from quietly converting one event into a life sentence.
When understanding remains weaker than the charge
At the core-belief level, you may have good answers and still feel overpowered. That is the point where Feel Different places the Kugelübung: as proprietary emotional work for the felt charge when intellectual understanding does not reach the reaction. This page explains its place, not its complete procedure. The procedure belongs in guided programme material and needs Orlando-approved public wording.
When qualified support is the right decision
There are times when the right decision is not more self-help. Severe trauma symptoms, panic that makes daily life impossible, profound depression, loss of safety, substance dependence, or thoughts of self-harm need qualified local clinical or emergency support. This is not a defeat of the method. It is a responsible recognition of scope.
“The useful question is not ‘What is wrong with me?’ It is ‘What kind of response does this moment actually need?’” Feel Different teaching, adapted from Modules 4, 6, 7, 9, and 13
The Meta-decision becomes clearer with practice. Begin by separating the feeling, the automatic thought, the hidden rule, the practical situation, and the depth of the emotional charge. Then choose one honest next move instead of trying to win every inner argument at once.
